After finding all the figures, enjoying the views from the viewpoints, and trying some typical dishes from the area, such as the plato alpujarreño or migas at Taberna Romero, one of the best restaurants to eat in the Alpujarra Granadina, you can head to the O Sel Ling Buddhist meditation center, the first of its kind in Spain and consecrated by the Dalai Lama himself.
From this complex, located over 1,500 meters high and about 8 kilometers from Soportújar (a 2-hour uphill walk or a 15-minute drive), you will have incredible views of the Poqueira ravine.
Among its most interesting sites is a small stupa, a prayer wheel, and a small temple with a sculpture of the Medicine Buddha, although what is most appreciated is its isolation and surroundings, making it perfect for practicing or starting your journey into meditation and Buddhism.
The center, focused on solitary meditation practice, is directed by a Spanish Buddhist nun, Paloma Alba, and houses about ten people, along with a cow, a cat, and three dogs named with Tibetan names.
From the lookout of this ancient farmhouse, you can see the snow-capped Mulhacén and the white villages of the valley: Capileira, Pampaneira, and Bubión, where the child Osel Hita Torres, the reincarnation of Lama Yeshe, was born.
On clear days, the Rif mountains of Morocco can also be distinguished on the horizon. The air is pure, and only the distant bells of a flock of sheep provide music to the general silence. Among the undergrowth stands "the stupa," the typical Buddhist monument symbolizing the path to enlightenment.
