Torre Muelle

Located on the coastal edge, about 21 km west of Málaga, it stands on a steep promontory near the cove or dock used in Roman times for the transit of goods. Its strategic position allowed for a panoramic view of the Alboran Sea coast and facilitated communication using fire and smoke signals with other towers and nearby populations, especially in the presence of enemy ships and pirates.

The tower has a truncated conical shape and is similar to other towers in the region, such as those of the Bóvedas in Marbella, Padrón, and Velerín, which were part of the defensive system during the reign of Charles I. With a height of 11.5 meters, the entrance is located 7.30 meters above the ground and was accessed via a ladder that could be removed to prevent access by potential enemies. Its base diameter is 7.65 meters, tapering to 5.70 meters at the top.

The construction of Torre del Muelle took place after the Christian reconquest of the area, likely in the late 16th century. Its name comes from the existence of a dock since Roman times and a sheltered cove used by the Andalusian Muslims. Vigilance in this area was sometimes inadequate due to the lack of economic incentives for the designated guards, resulting in frequent abandonment of the post
