The Parish of Santa María de las Flores

The Posadas Fortress was previously located on this location, built in 1314 during the mandate of King Alfonso XI, who approved its construction for the defense of the area.

There is little data on the distribution of the walls of this fortress, only a lithograph from 1739 where the towers and some wall sections can be seen. Of the elements that formed it, only a tower has survived to this day, used as the bell tower of the current parish and the Levante gate, popularly called the Arquito.

It is understood that over the years the fortress lost the functionality it had and ended up being destroyed to facilitate the urban expansion of the municipality.

Although the exact date of construction of the Parish is unknown, there is evidence of an expansion in it in 1545 by Bishop Leopold of Austria, a period to which the spacing of the current building is due. The northern side entrance, next to the Tower, is crowning the hillock, manipulated several times by the data we received about the existence of an Ossuary under it
