The Municipal Archaeological Exhibition

The Municipal Archaeological Exhibition, located on La Barca Street (formerly the marketplace square), highlights and interprets the history of Almodóvar del Río through its archaeological pieces, covering the towns development from its earliest inhabitants to the Islamic period (Middle Ages). The exhibition consists of two main rooms:

Prehistory (Lower, Middle, and Upper Paleolithic, Neolithic, and Chalcolithic periods): This section showcases the first industries and the humans who created them, the advancements of the Neolithic period, and Chalcolithic settlements. Notable pieces include bifaces, carved stones, a boat-shaped mill, and spindle whorls, along with a reconstructed Neolithic hut.

From the Ancient World to the Islamic Period: This section covers the Iberian-Turdetanian culture, the arrival of the Romans, the development of mining and commercial activities, Visigothic remnants, and the splendor of the Muslim era. Exhibited pieces include Iberian votive offerings, pottery, amphora handles with seals, terra sigillata, Roman numismatics, and Andalusian ceramics. A reproduction of an Iberian house is also displayed to give visitors an idea of the living conditions during this period.
