The bridge over the Guadalquivir River in Posadas

It was inaugurated by the Count of Vallellano, the Minister of Public Works, in the 1950s. However, it wasn’t until 1968, when the road to Fuente Palmera was asphalted, that connections with the countryside were fully enhanced, making the bridge an essential resource for local travel and commerce.

Unlike other bridges in remote areas, the Posadas bridge is situated close to the town, becoming an integral part of the region’s daily life. As is common with structures that play a role in community life, the bridge quickly inspired its own legend, stemming from the creativity and humor characteristic of local culture.

The Legend of the “Upside-Down” Bridge

According to local lore, a disagreement arose between the engineer responsible for the bridge and public opinion regarding its location. The legend recounts that, on the night before its official inauguration, some invisible and “evil” beings lifted the bridge from its supports and turned it upside down. In this way, the bridge was left in the place originally designated by the engineer, satisfying both sides of the dispute in this magical and unusual manner. This humorous anecdote has transformed the bridge into a special attraction, imbued with a touch of mystery that reflects the creativity of Posadas
