The Alcazaba of Malaga

The Alcazaba was built in the 11th century during the period of Muslim rule in the Iberian Peninsula, specifically under the governance of the Muslim king Badis ben Habús. Its original purpose was to serve as a fortress and military palace, as well as a residence for the Muslim rulers of the city.

The Alcazaba complex consists of several defensive structures, including walls, towers, and a castle at the top of the hill, known as the Gibralfaro Castle. These structures were built with limestone and are adorned with intricate Muslim-style details, such as horseshoe arches, tiles, and stucco work.

The Alcazaba of Málaga is famous for its stunning panoramic views of the city and the Mediterranean Sea from its walls and towers. It also features beautiful interior gardens, landscaped patios, and fountains that reflect the influence of Arab culture in its design.

Today, the Alcazaba of Málaga is an important tourist destination and a cultural landmark that attracts visitors from around the world. It stands as a fascinating testament to the rich historical and cultural past of the city of Málaga and is a must-visit for those looking to explore its architectural heritage and enjoy spectacular views.
