Parish of Our Lady of the Assumption

The interior of the church is a delight for the senses, with a transept adorned by three majestic carved stone domes. In its heyday, the parish boasted a coffered ceiling and a ceiling decorated with painted panels, but unfortunately these treasures fell victim to the devastation of the Spanish Civil War.

Standing in all its splendor is the Retable of the High Altar, a masterpiece by Pedro Freila de Guevara, dating from 1633. This altarpiece, although damaged by the ravages of the war, remains a testament to the devotion to Saint Acacius, the patron saint of the town, who presides over it with grace and majesty.

During the 18th century, the parish was enriched with the construction of the formidable Chapel of the Tabernacle, a place of worship that radiates splendor and reverence. In addition, the Chapel of the Counts of Alcaudete, "Señores de Montemayor," was created, an expression of the connection between nobility and faith that characterizes its history.

Among the treasures it houses, the baptismal font stands out, a unique example carved from a single stone, in the Plateresque style, and made in 1539. This piece, with its beauty and detail, transports us to times past and connects us with our deepest roots.

In recognition of its historical, artistic, and spiritual value, the Parish of Our Lady of the Assumption was declared a Monument of Cultural Interest on June 17, 2003.
