Museum

The origins of this museum date back to the 1950s, when the G.A.M.A. group began to unearth archaeological treasures in the region. After several attempts at legalisation, in 1980 the museum was officially accepted by the academic and political authorities of the province, thus becoming the first open museum in Córdoba under a decree from the Junta de Andalucía.
A Chronological Journey

A visit to the museum is a fascinating journey through time, guided by its educational and chronological approach. From Lower Paleolithic remains dating back between 250,000 and 100,000 years to microlaminar elements from the Epipaleolithic historical period, the museum offers a detailed look at prehistoric life in the region.
Treasures of the Neolithic

Among the most notable finds are axes, fishhooks and two double-axe-shaped limestone idols, dating back to around 2000 BC. In addition, a carefully restored tomb of the Argaric tradition reveals grave goods that include a short bronze sword, a ceramic bowl and other items dating back to 1800 BC.
Traces of Ancient Civilizations

Within the historical periods, the museum exhibits examples of the diverse cultures that have left their mark on the region, from Phoenicians and Greeks to Romans and Arabs. Each artifact tells a unique story and offers a window into the rich history of Doña Mencía and its surroundings.
