Información

In 1938, the cave was explored for the first time during the Spanish Civil War by military officers, including Francisco Segovia Garcia, Rafael Naranjo Morales, Ricardo Barcena Nalda, and the parish priest of Zuheros, Don Pedro Vallejo. They are credited with discovering the human remains found at the bottom of the cave. However, the first written reference to the cave appears in the book *Antigüedades Prehistóricas de Andalucia* (Prehistoric Antiquities of Andalucia) by archaeologist Manuel de Gongora y Martinez, published in 1868. Since then, the cave has been the subject of several archaeological excavations, which have provided valuable information about the Middle Paleolithic and Neolithic periods.

In 1962 and 1969, the first significant archaeological work took place, revealing that the Andalucian Neolithic began a millennium earlier than previously believed.
