Museo Monasterio de la Concepción is located in Granada and is one of the oldest and most representative cloistered convents in Granada. It is situated in the heart of the lower Albaicín, facing the Alhambra and parallel to the Carrera del Río Darro, a unique urban space in monumental Granada.
It stands on an architectural complex that harmoniously integrates important palaces, houses, fountains, orchards, and pre-existing Moorish gardens from the Muslim period, along with buildings typical of Christian conventual constructions, such as the original Gothic entrance to the cloister and the Baroque entrance of the monumental Church. A unique courtyard of Moorish tradition with an octagonal fountain serves as the cloister around which the main conventual dependencies are arranged. For all these reasons, it is considered one of the most enriching cultural vestiges of the Albaicín.
The Monasterio de la Concepción is one of the oldest and most representative cloistered convents in Granada. It is located in the heart of the lower Albaicín, a World Heritage neighborhood, facing the Alhambra and parallel to the Carrera del Darro, a unique urban space in monumental Granada.
The visitor who comes to see the Concepción monastery will not only find works of religious art exhibited as in the usual museums. The most significant thing about visiting this convent complex is contemplating the works of art located in their context, in the space and with the purpose for which they were conceived. The uninterrupted permanence of the nuns, from its foundation to the present day, makes it possible that, when visiting the different spaces and conventual rooms, we delve into five centuries of Granada history, religiosity, art and culture.
