Malaga Cathedral

The construction of the cathedral began in the 16th century on the remains of an ancient Muslim mosque, in a process that lasted for several centuries, giving rise to a fusion of architectural styles ranging from late Gothic to Renaissance and Baroque. This gives the cathedral an architectural and artistic uniqueness.

One of the highlights of Malaga Cathedral is its main façade, which features an impressive combination of marbles of different colors and styles. The interior of the cathedral is equally impressive, with a tall central nave and a series of side chapels decorated with works of religious art of great value.

The cathedral also houses a rich collection of sacred art, including paintings, sculptures and altarpieces by prominent artists from different periods, such as Pedro de Mena, Alonso Cano and José Denis Belgrano, among others.

One of the most unique features of Malaga Cathedral is its unfinished second tower, which has earned it the popular nickname "La Manquita" (La Coja). This tower was originally conceived to be a twin to the current one, but was never completed due to lack of funds.
