Hundidero Cave, located in Montejaque, is the entrance to one of the largest underground systems in Andalusia. With an opening over 50 meters high, this cave is the starting point of the Hundidero-Gato complex, a network of tunnels and lagoons extending more than ten kilometers.
The entrance to the cave is surrounded by an impressive rocky environment, with vertical walls and typical vegetation of the Ronda Mountains. During the rainy season, the Guadares River flows inside, adding to its beauty and mystery.
Due to its complexity and extreme conditions, the Hundidero-Gato system can only be explored by experienced cavers. However, the entrance and surrounding area offer a fascinating experience for hikers and nature lovers.
In the 20th century, an attempt was made to build a dam in the area, but the water disappeared through cracks in the karst system, making the project impossible. Today, the ruins of the dam add an enigmatic touch to the landscape.
