Cuarto Real de Granada

The Cuarto Real was a small palatial complex owned by Queen Fatima, or Aixa, the mother of Boabdil, and was used as a place for rest and retreat. It is very likely that this is why Queen Isabella I of Castile felt drawn to it and decided to purchase it from Queen Fatima, based on the terms of the surrender agreements signed in Santa Fe, which stated that property owners could continue to enjoy their possessions even if they left Granada. In 1493, it was ceded to the Order of Preachers of Santo Domingo along with the adjacent Almanjarra Mayor orchard for the construction of the convent of Santa Cruz, which is where it derives its other name: Cuarto Real de Santo Domingo.

The Cuarto Real de Santo Domingo is an ancient palace from the Almohad period (Dar al-Bayda), located in the city of Granada, in the autonomous community of Andalusia. It is situated on the current Cuesta de Aixa street, near the wall that enclosed the Realejo neighborhood, known as "Rabad al-Fajjarin" in Muslim Granada. It was located in the area known as Huerta Grande de Almanxarra, which included gardens and various buildings, among which stood out a qubba or ceremonial hall located within a tower of the wall of the Alfareros suburb.
