Cathedral of Hinojosa

The cathedral, declared a National Monument in 1981, presents a fascinating mix of architectural styles. From Gothic to Baroque, every corner of the temple displays a unique artistic richness. Its north-south orientation and its imposing three-nave structure, with ten Romanesque pillars supporting the former arches and the choir, reveal the mastery of its builders.

The cathedral tower is an example of architectural evolution over the centuries. Built in different stages and styles, its capital and top, the work of Pedro Antonio Muñoz and Andrés Muñoz respectively, are an example of the technical and aesthetic excellence of the period.

The main door, in Roman and Plateresque style, and the second door in pointed style at the base of the tower, are true works of art that captivate those who contemplate them. Inside, the Mudejar ceiling of the central nave and the pointed ceiling of the presbytery, decorated with baroque painting, dazzle with their beauty and splendor.

Although the cathedral was damaged during the Spanish Civil War, its subsequent restoration returned its original splendor. The neo-Gothic altarpiece of the Virgin of the Rosary, the work of local craftsman Joaquín Sánchez, and other decorative elements, testify to the effort to preserve its historical and artistic legacy
