Información

After the conquest by Ferdinand III the Saint in 1240, the Crown of Castile took possession of it, making it a clear artistic example of a mid-12th century medieval fortress. The monarch gave the fortress to his wife, Joan of Ponthieu, and it was later ceded to the Order of Calatrava in 1252. Alfonso X then ceded it to Prince John of Castile, and later Sancho IV transferred it to the council of Córdoba in 1293. The House of Donceles acquired ownership in the 15th century and established an entail that participated in both the Battle of Lucena and the Capture of Granada against the Nasrid Kingdom. During the 16th century, the palace of the lords of Zuheros was built on the site in Renaissance style (Hernán Ruiz), modifying the entrance and structure of the building.
