Averroes

Considered one of the most important philosophers under the Aristotelian thought. A student of Ibn Tufayl, he held the magistracy in Qurtuba during the Almoravid domination. His name comes from the Latinization of ibn Rušd.

He proclaimed that metaphysical truths could be expressed in two ways: through philosophy, according to Aristotelian teachings and Neoplatonic postulates, and through religion as demonstrated in the books of revelation.

With the arrival of the Almohads, whose religious and fanatical fervor was in opposition to the thought on reason and religion of the Averroes, he was exiled to Lucena (Cordoba); part of his works were destroyed. Due to this event, these testimonies have not reached our time.
