Ancón Tower

The Torre Ancón, standing 11.9 meters tall, rises as a silent sentinel over the small cove that lends its name to the beach. With a diameter of 7.40 meters at its base and 5.20 meters at the top, this tower not only showcases an impressive architectural structure but also provides a panoramic view of the beautiful Mediterranean coastline.

History and Function

Like many other watchtowers along the Andalusian coast, Torre Ancón was part of an ingenious coastal defense system. For centuries, both Arabs and Christians used these towers to protect their territories from invasions and ensure the safety of their communities. The watchtowers served as observation points from which enemy ships could be spotted and nearby communities alerted.
