Museo Arqueológico de Granada

The Archaeological Museum of Granada is located on the Carrera del Darro, in the historic Albaicín neighborhood, within a building known as Casa de Castril. This 16th-century mansion was constructed by the grandson of Hernando de Zafra after Carlos V granted permission.

It was one of the first archaeological museums established in Spain, with its official creation in 1879 thanks to the efforts of the Monument Commission and the City Council of Granada. Previously, in 1865, the Provincial Commission of Monuments had created a museum of antiquities, which served as its foundation.

The museums collection is structured on two levels with 7 rooms that showcase various archaeological periods, covering archaeological finds from the Paleolithic and Neolithic discovered in the province of Granada, as well as notable Iberian, Phoenician, Roman, and Arab pieces. Its management is under the Ministry of Culture of the Junta de Andalucia.
