Iglesia de la Magdalena

It is one of the most important monuments in the city and a notable example of Renaissance architecture in Andalusia.

Built between the 16th and 17th centuries, the Iglesia de la Magdalena was erected on the remains of an ancient Muslim mosque. Its design is the work of architect Andrés de Vandelvira, one of the main exponents of Spanish Renaissance in the region.

The building features an imposing main facade, highlighting its Renaissance portal adorned with columns and reliefs. The interior of the church is equally impressive, with a wide and high central nave, decorated with Baroque altarpieces and religious artworks.

One of the most outstanding elements of the Iglesia de la Magdalena is its bell tower, which majestically rises above the skyline of Jaén and offers panoramic views of the city and its surroundings.

The Iglesia de la Magdalena is an active place of worship, but it also attracts numerous visitors seeking to appreciate its architecture and rich history. It is an important landmark in the historic center of Jaén and a must-stop for those exploring the city.
