Cathedral of Mercy

Construction of the Cathedral of Mercy in Huelva began in the mid-17th century, although its construction extended over several centuries with various interventions and renovations reflecting the evolution of architectural styles over time. The building combines Baroque, Renaissance, and Neoclassical elements, creating a unique and beautiful structure.

The main facade of the Cathedral of Mercy features an impressive Baroque portal decorated with Solomonic columns, sculptures of saints, and reliefs depicting biblical scenes. Inside, the church has a spacious and luminous central nave adorned with paintings, sculptures, and altarpieces of great artistic value.

One of the most notable features of the Cathedral of Mercy is its high altar, a magnificent gilded altarpiece that presides over the liturgical space and represents the figure of the Virgin of Mercy, patroness of the city of Huelva. This image is the object of devotion and veneration by the faithful, who come to the cathedral to pay homage and seek her protection.

In addition to its religious and artistic value, the Cathedral of Mercy is also an important center for cultural and social activities in the city of Huelva. Throughout the year, it hosts various religious events such as masses, weddings, baptisms, and special ceremonies, as well as concerts, lectures, and exhibitions that enrich the community.
