Museo Sefardí de Granada

The Sephardic Museum allows visitors to discover the important Jewish legacy of Garnata al-Yahud.

The Sephardic Museum of Granada, officially known as the Museum of the Judería, is a small museum dedicated to recreating the culture, history, notable figures, and traditions of the Sephardic Jews in Granada. This private initiative is housed in a typical home in the Realejo neighborhood, which was the Jewish quarter of Granada before the expulsion of the Jews in 1492.

The origins of the Realejo neighborhood trace back to the original Jewish settlement, with the area’s original name being Garnata al-Yahud. This museum highlights the culture, history, notable figures, and traditions of the Sephardic community in the city until their expulsion in 1492.

The house contains everyday objects, maps of the city, and a specialized library on Hebrew topics. The Jewish community remained in Granada for over fifteen centuries, contributing notable figures such as Samuel Ibn Nagrella, who established a public bath system in the city, and Yehudá Ibn Tibon, a physician, translator, vizier, and poet from Granada.
