The Barrio de la Villa in Priego de Córdoba, declared a Historic-Artistic Complex in 1972, is the original urban center of the town. With its medieval and Muslim influences, it holds the charm and history of Andalusia, akin to other iconic districts such as the Albaicín in Granada or the Judería in Córdoba.
The narrow, winding streets of the neighborhood invite you to get lost in its labyrinth. The area is a perfect blend of harmony and beauty, with flowers adorning the whitewashed walls, creating an atmosphere of peace and serenity. The combination of lime and stone defines every corner of the barrio.
To truly experience the essence of Barrio de la Villa, we suggest a walk starting from Plaza de Santa Ana, one of its most famous squares. From there, you will walk down the Calle Real, leading to the small and picturesque Placita de San Antonio. Continue along Calle Jazmines, and after crossing the Calle Real again, make your way down the Bajondillo street until you reach the Adarve, a natural balcony offering exceptional views of the Andalusian landscape surrounding the neighborhood. This natural ravine, with its significant slope, has historically protected Priego.
Throughout the journey, three fountains continuously spring water, ready to quench the wanderer’s thirst. Below, you can admire the fertile orchards by the river, the surrounding mountains, and the olive groves that have shaped the region.
