The history of Fuente Obejuna dates back to ancient times. Its origin can be traced back to the Middle Ages when it was a small population center in the lands belonging to the military order of Calatrava. Over the centuries, the town witnessed various historical episodes, with the most famous and notable being the one that took place in 1476, when the inhabitants of the town, fed up with the tyranny of the Commander of the Calatrava Order, killed the tyrant and revolted against the authorities. This event was immortalized by the playwright Lope de Vega in his famous work Fuente Ovejuna, which captured this popular uprising, known for the phrase "Fuente Obejuna, all as one."
The town played an important role in the history of the Reconquista and the repopulation of the area after the Christian occupation. Over time, Fuente Obejuna became a prosperous and thriving town, known for its agriculture, especially livestock and olive oil production.
Culture and Traditions

Among the most notable celebrations is Holy Week, which is one of the most important in the province. During these days, the streets are filled with religious fervor, with processions that pass through the main points of the town. Additionally, the town celebrates various festivities throughout the year, such as the August Fair, which attracts many visitors with its festive atmosphere, concerts, bullfights, and diverse gastronomic offerings.
Another significant cultural aspect is its Moors and Christians festival, which recalls the struggles between Muslims and Christians during the Reconquista, with locals participating in a lively parade of costumes and performances. Fuente Obejuna is also known for its livestock traditions and events related to bullfighting, which are a central part of the local identity.

Another place of great interest is the Plaza de la Constitución, the heart of the town, where events are held and where important historic buildings can be found.
Throughout the town, several remnants of medieval architecture can also be found, such as the old walls and gates, which recall the fortified past of Fuente Obejuna. Calle Real, one of the main arteries of the town, is lined with period buildings that retain their original charm.
