Roman Theater Malaga

It was built in the 1st century AD, during the time of the Roman Empire, and was used for theatrical performances and public events. It had a capacity to accommodate about 2,000 people and was located on a slope of the Alcazaba hill, overlooking the port and the Mediterranean Sea.

For centuries, the Roman theater was in use, but over time it fell into oblivion and was buried underground. It was rediscovered in 1951 during construction work in the area and has since been the subject of archaeological excavations and restoration work.

Today, the Roman Theater of Malaga is one of the main tourist attractions in the city and is open to the public for visits. Visitors can tour the theater and admire its stands, stage and other architectural elements, as well as learn about its history and its importance in ancient Roman Malaga.

The theater also houses an interpretation center where archaeological objects found at the site are displayed and information about life in Roman Malaga is offered.

Located in a central area of the city and with the Gibralfaro Castle behind, they create an unparalleled postcard of the city.
