Palace of the Counts of Sta Ana

The construction of the palace is estimated to have taken place during the 1730s and was completed in the second half of the 18th century. On its first floor, Antonio Rafael de Mora y Saavedra kept a cabinet of antiquities for his visitors, including a 2nd-century Roman statue of Eros discovered in the foundations in 2010. The building subsequently passed into the hands of the Mata Burgos family, known as Torres Burgos, and was declared a National Historic-Artistic Monument in 1982.

In 2005, the Lucena City Council acquired the palace with the aim of converting it into a cultural space.
After a restoration process that revealed findings such as a 2nd-century statue of sleeping Eros and neoclassical wall paintings, the Interpretation Centre opened its doors in 2011 with ten exhibition rooms. In later years, new rooms dedicated to the early Christian basilica of Coracho and Sephardic culture have been inaugurated.
