Naval Museum of Seville

The Torre del Oro is a defensive tower from the 13th century, from which a thick chain extended to the opposite bank of the Guadalquivir River to block the passage of enemy ships.

This albarrana tower, standing 36 meters tall on the left bank of the river, has three sections: the first two are dodecagonal, with the first constructed by the Almohads and the second built by Pedro I the Cruel. The third section is cylindrical and topped with a dome, erected in the 18th century. The tower defended the river entrance to the Puente de Barcas and, on land, the access to Arenal and its industrial activity. It was connected to the Torre de la Plata via a wall section called coracha, which also linked it to the Alcázar.

In 1944, the Naval Museum was inaugurated inside the Torre del Oro, transferring 400 pieces from the Naval Museum of Madrid. The museum is spread over two visitable floors and a panoramic terrace, showcasing the history of the tower and the port of Seville during the Arab period, its significance in the city
