History
The House of Félix Sáenz was built at the end of the 19th century, between 1889 and 1890, commissioned by the industrialist Félix Sáenz, who wanted a residence that reflected his social and economic position. The building was designed by architect Jerónimo Cuervo González, who was inspired by the neo-Mudejar style, characterized by Islamic and Mudejar architectural elements.
Architecture
The architecture of the House of Félix Sáenz stands out for its originality and beauty. The building features a richly ornamented façade, with neo-Mudejar details such as horseshoe arches, decorative tiles, wrought iron balconies, and a viewing tower with a glazed ceramic dome.
Inside, the house has a traditional layout of homes from the period, with spacious and bright spaces, high ceilings and marble and mosaic floors. Also notable are the marble stairs, the carved wooden doors and windows, and the modernist-style decorative details.
Cultural Importance
The House of Félix Sáenz is considered an important example of neo-Mudejar architecture in Malaga and a symbol of the economic and cultural boom of the city at the end of the 19th century. The building has been the subject of various restorations and retains much of its original structure, making it a living testimony of the history and architecture of Malaga.
Current Status and Use
Today, the Casa de Félix Sáenz remains a private residence and is not open to the public. However, its façade is one of the most photographed and admired places in the historic center of Malaga, and it is possible to contemplate its beauty by walking through the nearby streets.
