El Torcal de Antequera

Having its origin in the Jurassic period, that is, in the Mesozoic Era or Secondary Era. Covered by the sea, it formed a corridor connecting what we now know as Alicante to the Gulf of Cádiz. In the following Era, orogenic uplift occurred, with limestone sediments deposited deep in the oceanic corridor. This natural area belongs to the limestone arch of the Subbéticas Mountains.
